02.01.2024
According to the national grid operator Redes Energéticas Nacionais (REN), in 2023 renewable energies supplied a record-breaking 61% to Portugal's total power consumption.
Last year, approximately 25 percent of the renewable energy used in Portugal was generated by wind, hydropower provided around 23 percent of the national electricity generation, solar PV accounted for 7 percent, and 6 percent was produced by biomass.
Non-renewable sources covered about 19 percent of the country’s power needs and the import balance supplied the remaining 20 percent of consumption.
All in all, energy demand in Portugal reached its highest since 2018.
